Monroe’s MESA (Math Engineering Science Achievement) program helped to prepare the students in various academic competitions such as:

A Retrospective Look at Monroe
For the 2008-2009 School Year, Monroe has earned a multitude of student awards. Students have worked diligently to excel in various competitions entered.
LA County Science Fair
Monroe Magnet Middle School registered 10 science projects (13 students) and two of those projects won honorable mentions with 3 individual medals in both the Engineering Research and Aerodynamics Category.
Junior MESA Regional Finals held at USC
47 Monroe students participated and received five (5) 1st place awards, three (3) 2nd Place awards and two (2) 3rd Place awards.
MESA Regional – The National Engineering Category
Trebuchet was won by Monroe Magnet Middle School- UCLA and was the official representative of the Los Angeles Region to the State Finals in Fresno.
Physics Day at Knott’s Berry Farm
Monroe won 1st and 2nd place in Airplane Design and 1st in the Buoyancy Boat Competition and Fluid Dynamics Collage in the Middle School Division.
Monroe’s 50 MESA students won 36 awards out of 52 awards. We won in every category and brought home 72 medals and ribbons. In this competition, Monroe had ten (10) 1st place winners, twelve 2nd place winners and fourteen 3rd place winners. All 48 students went to the Regional Finals at University of Southern California.
UCLA MESA Scholars Incentive Award
GMN Engineering Inc., a three member Monroe Engineering team won in the Middle School Division and received a $300 monetary award for each student and an invitation to the UCLA Henry Samueli College of Engineering Scholarship and Recognition Banquet
JPL Challenge Finals at the JPL Facility in Pasadena
Monroe MESA team took 3 aerial cars and competed against 22 high schools, two middle schools and 12 entries from JPL engineers. Monroe Magnet Middle school took 2nd Place in this event.
MESA CA State Finals at Cal State University Fresno
Monroe Trebuchet Team that represented the LA Region won 2nd Place Technical Paper, 2nd Place Oral Presentation and 3rd Place Academic Display categories.
Robert Herndon Science Competition at Aerospace Corporation
Monroe won 1st Place in the Science Essay Competition Middle School Division and also won 1st place in the Experimental Competition. Each of the five member experimental group won $1,800 and the essay winner received $1,000. Monroe teams won a grand total of $10,000 worth of saving bonds.
